► Over 650 exhibitors and more than 7,500 guests joined the expo, and 10,319 items were displayed. As of 12:00 PM Sept. 8, the number of visitors to the high-tech expo reached 380,000, including 89,000 professional visitors.

Themed “military-civilian integration, scientific and technological innovation and opening-up and cooperation,” this year’s expo is composed of exhibitions, forums and special events.

► In statistical terms, in Mianyang last year, the patents granted for every 10,000 of its population reached 9.45. A total of 1,997 patent-based projects were implemented, with an output value of 21.82 billion yuan (US$ 3.19 billion).

Statistics show the city in the past two years applied for over 10,000 patents annually. The number of patent applications and authorizations ranks second in Sichuan province, amounting to 59,176 and 30,979 respectively.

► Mianyang is totally committed to promoting civil-military integration of intellectual property rights. It has been recognized as a National Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Demonstration City for its efforts to facilitate the application and protection of intellectual property rights.

► Zhao Hui, party secretary of the Sichuan Intellectual Property Bureau said.

Mianyang boasts abundant national defense and military resources. Civil-military integration in intellectual property rights caters to the needs of the times and entails the co-development of national defense and the local economy.

► This year, the National Intellectual Property Administration of the PRC and the Equipment Development Department of the Central Military Commission jointly carried out pilot work on IPR in regard to civil-military integration, in which Sichuan is among the first batch of pilot provinces.

► 2018 China Civil-Military Integration & Intellectual Property Finance Summit, part of the ongoing China (Mianyang) Science & Technology City International High-Tech Expo, was held in Mianyang on the afternoon of Sept. 7.

► The conference attracted many top enterprises from China and abroad, financial institutions, R&D institutes as well as colleges, and more than 650 guests.

During the conference, the Chengdu Plain Economic Zone, South Sichuan Economic Zone, Northeast Sichuan Economic Zone, Panxi Economic Zone and Northwest Sichuan Ecology Demonstration Zone were also pitched to investors.

Mianyang is the only science and technology city approved by the State Council, and the second-largest city in terms of economic output in Sichuan province.

► Peng Yuxing, vice governor of Sichuan province, said.

Sichuan will go all out to coordinate development within its four economic zones – the Chengdu Rim Economic Circle, the South Sichuan Economic Zone, the Northeast Sichuan Economic Zone and the Panxi Economic Zone.

► The annual High-tech Expo has become a significant platform for exchanges and cooperation for Sichuan province. Among the signed projects, 57 relate to Mianyang and involve a total of 76.08 billion yuan.

[September 7] Deals for 121 projects worth 90.42 billion yuan (US$13.22 billion) were signed during the investment promotion conference of the 6th China (Mianyang) Science & Technology City’s International High-tech Expo in Mianyang, Sichuan province, on the morning of Sept. 7.

► This created a solid foundation for “innovation-driven development” and CMI development in China’s western regions.

Mianyang was the first prefecture-level city in Sichuan with an economic aggregate exceeding 200 billion yuan.

 Fueled by the rapid development of CMI, Mianyang witnessed a GDP of 207.48 billion yuan last year.

In 2017, there were 321 CMI enterprises based in Mianyang Science and Technology City, with the annual output value of 150 billion yuan, accounting for more than 50 percent of total industrial output value.

► In recent years, Mianyang has made use of its advantages to promote scientific and technological innovation and CMI development with outstanding results in institutional innovation, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and development of innovative industries. This is creating a “Mianyang Path” for CMI development.

 It is home to 18 State-level research institutes, 14 colleges and universities, nine national key laboratories, 28 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as more than 230,000 professional workers and technicians. 

Mianyang is the birthplace of the Chinese atomic and hydrogen bombs, as well as artificial satellites, and is an important national defense military and scientific research and production base with great potential in CMI development through its abundant scientific and technological resources and talent pool. 

► It has set up the country’s first CMI dual-use technology trading center, first large-scale platform for sharing of CMI scientific instrument and is planning to establish 10 industrial parks featuring military-civilian integration.  

Mianyang of Sichuan province in western China, the only science and technology city approved by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, is pressing ahead on the road to civil-military integration (CMI).

► Compared with previous sessions of the expo, this year’s expo adopts a new model of “exhibitions + forums + events.” A total of 31 forums will be presented during the Expo, such as China Beidou Application Conference, Sino-German Smart Manufacturing Summit and the 3rd China Aviation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (CAIEC).

► This year’s expo has a total exhibition area of 70,000 square meters, 1.8 times that of last year. It has four indoor exhibition pavilions, namely, a military and civilian integration pavilion, an international cooperation and high-tech pavilion, a Beidou technology application pavilion, five economic zones and high-tech industrial pavilion, and one outdoor area featuring large installations and an equipment area, with more than 10,000 items on display.

Li Ping, member of the CPC Party Group of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and president of the Science and Technology Daily, said.

This year’s high-tech expo, focusing on the key elements of technical innovation, is aimed to develop an open and interactive platform for military-civilian integration and speed up the transformation of high-tech achievements,

As the only national-level sci-tech city in China, Mianyang is one of the core areas in Sichuan to carry out total innovation and reform, bearing the historical mission of developing an innovation-oriented country and promoting the integration of the military and civilian undertakings.

Peng Qinghua, secretary of the Sichuan Provincial CPC Committee, pointed out in his opening speech.

This year’s expo will highlight the concepts of sharing and win-win results, and will play an important role in promoting China’s science and technology as well as scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and the world.
